This month we'll show you a bit about turning the crushed
rock from the quarry, which is about 80-100mm in diameter,
into hydrated lime... that familiar dry, white powder.
First ya get a bucket of rocks from the stockpile that
was carted from the quarry...
Then ya gotta cart it up the ramp and dump it into the
"feed" bin so that it can be "fed" slowly onto the
conveyor belt to the secondary crusher...
On the right you can see the feed conveyor to the crusher,
which is the dusty white object extreme right. The material is
crushed even smaller, then screened to removed the scalps,
which are stockpiled for use as agricultural lime... remember
the heap covered with kids last month! The clean limestone is
then fed up the other conveyor into the furnace and dried...
hydrated lime. You can just see the reddish storage bins behind
the trees.
Look carefully at the enlarged version of this tranquil rural
scene, and see if you can spot the white gate; it's behind
that last roan horse just to the right of centre...
OK... I'll make it a bit easier for you; I know the
eyesight's not what it used to be :-)) Click left to
enlarge the image, and you'll note just a drift of dust
in the background...
That dust shoulda been the giveaway... hiding behind the trees,
just metres away from those grazing horses, is Nedrill's
rig, hard at work preparing for the next blast.
