February 2007
It's nearly time for some bitumen at the Waterfront. The image
left shows Kitchener Drive with kerbing complete and FCR (fine
crushed rock) pavement in place. Macmahon just have some pits
to build, service conduits and subsoil drainage to lay behind
the kerb, then it'll be a race to beat Wolpers Grahl to
the spray wagon.
Now that the bulk of the rock armouring to the seawall is complete,
it's time for more pipework. The clean water added to the lagoon,
via pipework near the Convention Centre, needs to circulate. The pipe
in the image left will be placed through the seawall, towards the Fort
Hill Wharf end of the wall, to allow excess water to drain back into
Kitchener Bay.

First sealing as part of the Waterfront Project, and the flag goes to
Wolpers Grahl! The monsoon eased off for a bit, and they didn't
waste one second getting the first half of Mc Minn St and the Frances Bay
Drive intersection trimmed up. February 13th and it was on with the
black stuff; beautiful!
Luckily for Macmahon they weren't far behind with their sealing,
so now Kitchener Drive has a nice coat of seal and one side of Stokes
Hill access road even has a covering of hotmix asphalt! Not a moment too
soon, The Rains Came, and how... over 400mmm for the month; nearly
half in the last week!
